Hi, I’m Piyali Mukherjee and I also go by Peels.

I write creative non-fiction, satire and fiction and work across short stories and screenplays. When I’m not doing that, I work at building cloud solutions, building software for outer-space and orbital logistics, and wishing the worst to people who start emails with I hope this email finds you well.

This blog is a response I get from putting a lot of my ideas in the world, which is to say “Peels please (reconsider/stop)” and yet. I believe that how we put ourselves out into the world (in my case, mastering my writing voice) is how we form genuine connections. And to me, that is a valuable way of spending one’s short time on this planet.

Here’s a handy FAQ that might answer other popular questions I’ve answered.

Reasons to subscribe to Peels Pls:

  • You have heard/overheard me rant about something and thought, “Yeah I want more of that.”

  • You found me via Twitter because I used to write/do comedy, and you want to get a sense of my writing style before you want to collaborate.

  • You like to laugh.

  • You come from a generation of the internet where it was still a wonderful way to make new friends and you miss that.

  • You are already my friend and you want to support my growth as a writer.

  • You found me via instagram where you’re trying to flirt with me by subscribing to this. You are correct, and your attempt will succeed.

  • You are sick of hearing any of the following words: content, thought leadership, upskill, storytelling, ideation, creator economy among others.

  • You are my biographer and you would like to read the polished version of my diaries in a possibly-vulnerable-but-hopefully-not-too-compromising way.

  • You found me via my website or my old blog, and you’re wondering what became of it. Wonder no further, it lives on here.

If this is the first time you’re encountering me/my work:

Hi. Please introduce yourself by replying to the introduction email that looks like this:

If you're feeling shy for now, here's a few prompts for what might get the conversation started:

  • A picture of your domestic animal, or a wild one or a fictional one that inspires your fancy.

  • Something hilarious/insightful that you've read recently and cannot find anyone to share this interest with (I'm still struggling to form my Chinese Soap Opera fan-club, so I understand the burden of having eclectic tastes).

  • A review about the most recent pair of socks you've purchased.

  • Your least favorite lobby music on a customer care call and why.

  • World-domination schemes in any state of completion or planning.

  • The last incriminating screenshot on your phone.

Thanks for hanging out with me :)
